Bayer Leverkusen have announced their first major signing of the Gerardo Seoane era, with Mitchel Bakker joining from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain. At just 21-years-old, the reported €7 million fee for the Dutchman is an absolute coup. Bakker made 26 appearances for PSG last season as one of the regulars in the team, after playing just a single match in his first season at the club.
With a solid all-round ability, Bakker will instantly improve Gerardo Seaone’s team and give him greater flexibility in playing with a back-three or back-four. He comes into the team in a position of need, as Dutch midfielder Daley Sinkgraven spent much of the previous campaign playing at left-back instead of Brazilian fullback Wendell, who fell out of favour under Hannes Wolf. Top quality fullbacks are difficult to find, and Mitchel Bakker should prove to be an excellent pick-up for the German giants.
