On May 8th, 2021, Bayern Munich claimed their ninth successive Bundesliga title, and their second in two seasons under the influence of Hansi Flick. The Germans technically snatched the title even before they kicked off on Saturday, with Leipzig losing to Borussia Dortmund to seal the deal. However, they celebrated their title win in style, with a 6-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach.
Die Borussen were in good form heading into the match, even claiming a 5-0 win over Arminia Bielefeld in their previous fixture. But they were no match for Bayern, as the Bavarians strolled to a victory after breaking the deadlock just two minutes into the match.
Every single member of the Bayern Munich starting eleven was on their day against Gladbach, making it impossible for Marco Rose’s team to gain any sort of momentum. From back to front, Neuer to Lewandowski, every single Bayern player had a standout performance. But none had more influence over the match than Lewandowski himself, who claimed half of the team’s goals. The Polish striker bagged his 37th, 38th, and 39th goal of the season, closing the gap on Gerd Muller’s record by one single goal. It was the perfect day for Bayern and the perfect day for Lewandowski, and it will be very hard for our upcoming Team of the Week to not be made up almost entirely of Bayern players.
Congratulations Bayern Munich on a deserving title win.
