Achraf Hakimi – the perfect wing-back for Nagelsmann’s Bayern?

In the blink of an eye, Achraf Hakimi has established himself as one of the world’s top wing-backs. In his final season at Borussia Dortmund in 2019-20, the Moroccan netted 9 goals with 10 assists in 41 matches between the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League. That swiftly earned him a move to Wing-Back FC – Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan. Hakimi has taken Conte’s team to new heights this season, scoring 7 goals with 6 assists as the Black & Blues have stolen the Scudetto away from Juventus.

With Joshua Kimmich now firmly a midfielder and Trent Alexander-Arnold not in the best form this season, many regard Hakimi as the best right-back in the world. So even though he’s just moved to Inter, Achraf Hakimi would be the perfect fit for a Julian Nagelsmann styled Bayern Munich.

Under the assumption that Julian Nagelsmann will ease into a system that incorporates some sort of back-three and wing-backs, Bayern Munich will be in need of a new right-sided player. Die Roten have several talented wing wizards and a few ball-playing centre-backs that adjust well to fullback, but they don’t have a natural fit for a back-three system on the right side. Achraf Hakimi would be absolutely electric for the team and the perfect fit for the role, given how capable he is in all areas of the game.

Not only is the 22-year-old one of the fastest players out there, he’s also very capable in possession, decent with his crossing, a good tackler and an impeccable goal-scorer / chance creator. With Alphonso Davies on the other side, Bayern Munich would have the two very best wing-backs in the world pulling strings from wide areas. This would be a deadly combination and one that would certainly give them a great shot at winning the UEFA Champions League once again.

With all of this in mind, Bayern Munich should do everything in their power to sign Achraf Hakimi. If Nagelsmann wants to play a back-three, the need for a right-wing-back is even greater. Who better to fulfill the role, than the very best in the world?
