After an abysmal season that left Schalke 04 relegated from the top flight, the Gelsenkirchen based team are demonstrating their ambition to do whatever it takes to get back into the Bundesliga. Having scored just 18 goals in 30 Bundesliga games this campaign, the Royal Blues desperately needed a new striker heading into next season. In Simon Terodde, they’ve found their man.
Schalke made a clear signal of intent in signing Terodde, who has won the 2. Bundesliga Golden Boot three seperate times and became the league’s all time top scorer this season. The 33-year-old striker had every chance of coming back up to the Bundesliga on his own accord with Hamburger SV, who currently sit in third place in the 2. Bundesliga table. But the 6’4 striker clearly prefers life in the second division, and will undoubtedly be a crucial figure for Schalke and their attack next season.
Terodde joins the team on a free transfer, with an option for a further year beyond the upcoming 2021-2022 season. He should provide a massive lift to the team, and his signing indicates that Schalke clearly mean business in their quest to come right back up to Germany’s top flight.
