Borussia Dortmund eased their way to a 5-0 victory over Holstein Kiel in the DFB-Pokal semi-final, with the club in complete control throughout the match. Unfortunately, it came at a cost, as Mateu Morey picked up a horrible injury in the second half.
As the Spaniard chased a loose ball, his foot got stuck in the turf and he appeared to over-stretch his knee. Morey appeared to be in unbearable pain and the stretchers were immediately called to eventually help the Spanish fullback off the pitch. Unfortunately for all in Black & Yellow, it would be hard to imagine him featuring again this season after being stretchered off in such devastating fashion.
Morey has been a regular fixture in the team under Edin Terzic, making a total of 24 appearances in all competitions this season. The Spaniard didn’t start the match, instead coming on after 62 minutes with the side already 5-0 up. Unfortunately he only lasted 12 minutes, and BVB’s momentum in the match died off in the closing stages, with Morey in their thoughts.
Although Borussia Dortmund now progress to the final of the DFB-Pokal, they will undoubtedly be feeling for the 21-year-old who has played a key role in their recent resurgence. With Lukasz Piszczek and Thomas Meunier fit and healthy, Dortmund have two solid replacements. However, Morey will be a miss as the club prepares for the final month of the season.
